Future Electronics Launches New Video on Inverted Thru Board Connectors from TE Connectivity

Montreal, Canada – July 08, 2014 – Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, has launched a new informational video discussing the use of inverted thru board connectors from TE Connectivity, enabling power delivery from the underside of PC boards and LED arrays, therefore eliminating top-surface wire management issues.

These connectors are a great solution for low profile applications that are often required in various solid state lighting LED modules as well as non-lighting related PCBs. There are four types of inverted thru board connectors from TE Connectivity.

The High Power Inverted Thru Board SMT Connector is a 600 VAC, 7A rated inverted header that is ideal for bringing power to today’s high voltage metal clad printed circuit board LED assemblies. The mating Economy Power II Connector works with 22-18 gauge stranded wire sizes leveraging the proven Economy Power II Connector System). The low profile top surface height of 2 mm above the LED printed circuit board minimizes interference with LED light emission. Also, the Economy Power II Connector provides Positive latching to help ensure a fully mated connection.

The Inverted Thru Board SMT Connector provides a separable, small form factor solution based on TE’s AMP Mini CT Connector to bring power into a conventional or aluminum-clad printed circuit board from the underside of the board. This power product eliminates the challenges of dressing wires on the top-side of LED boards, minimizing light obstruction and results in a cleaner, less obstructed PCB design. The header mates with the 1.5mm centerline AMP Mini CT plug assembly and facilitates simpler assembly of solid state LED lighting in architectural, residential, and commercial fixtures. This connector eliminates wire dress management issues on the top surface of the LED PC board, therefore minimizing light obstruction.

The Inverted Thru Board Card Edge and Poke-In Connectors are two-position, one piece connectors that share the same PCB footprint while offering flexibility in providing either a direct card edge mating solution or a poke-in wire connection to the underside of the LED array boards. Both provide 3.0 mm creep and clearance from all other conductive components on metal clad PC boards making them suitable for higher voltage designs.

The ITB Card Edge Connector, or Inverted Thru Board Card Edge Connector, is designed to provide direct power connection between driver boards to the underside of LED array boards. This 2 position, SMT card edge connector provides a perpendicular mating, cable-less, space saving power connection that is ideal for compact LED assembly designs such as those found in today’s retrofit lamps & bulbs. This one piece mating solution enables faster and easier assembly operation and offers a low profile space saving design. In addition, the 1.5 mm height above the PCB helps minimize LED light obstruction.

The video can be seen by clicking here.

In addition to the video, Future Electronics featured TE Connectivity’s inverted thru board connecters in a recent eTech Alert. Future Electronics Offers TE Connectivity’s UV-Resistant Sealed Circular Plastic Connectors

Montreal, Canada – April 28, 2014Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, offers availability of TE Connectivity’s (TE) UV-resistant sealed circular plastic connectors (CPC) that help eliminate the need for replacing UV-degraded housings in any outdoor applications where connectors may be exposed to UV light and/or water.

TE’s UV-resistant sealed CPC products use UL F1-rated resin to meet industry standards for long term UV exposure. The connectors are sealed to IP67 and require no supplementary enclosure to protect the mated connector against water spray or even immersion for short durations, helping to simplify installation and lower engineering costs. The circular configuration allows for more efficient use of space inside equipment enclosures and on panels compared to rectangular style connectors with an equivalent number of contacts.

UV-resistant sealed CPC connectors support a variety of application needs with both panel mount and free hanging mounting options and receptacle and plug housings that accept Type III+ signal contacts and/or AMP POWERBAND (size 8) contacts. Customers can realize maximum design flexibility with three series of housings designed to handle standard signal only, power with current up to 50A per contact and a combination of signal and power. The option to combine power and signal connections in a single, robust, UV-resistant, IP67-sealed connector enhances opportunities for equipment designers to save space and simplify equipment assembly and installation.

Applications include wireless base stations, remote radio heads, renewable energy infrastructure, and concentrated solar power (CSP) equipment.

To purchase products, or for more information about TE’s UV-resistant CPC connectors, other CPC products, crimp terminals, D-Subs, and PCBs, as well as access to the world’s largest available-to-sell inventory, visit www.FutureElectronics.com.
