Future Electronics Promotes Solutions for IoT Sensor Objects from STMicroelectronics

Montreal, Canada – March 3, 2016 – Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, recently announced immediate availability of ST solutions for IoT sensor objects, from STMicroelectronics.

Bluemicrosystem is a platform based on the STM32 open development environment that lowers the barrier for developers, allowing fast, affordable prototyping with development continuity to final devices. It enables developers to address complete middleware for applications with temperature and humidity sensors, pressure and motion sensors, real-time motion sensor data fusion, activity recognition, carry position, and free fall detection, all with very low power Bluetooth low energy (BlueNRG) connectivity.

The SPWF01S is a “cloud compatible” Wi-Fi module embedding all the FW (e.g. TLS/SSL security, rest API) to easily connect sensors and actuators to remote cloud services. It is available in a small form factor (26.92 x 15.24 x 2.35mm) both with and without antenna, with an easy interface to host microcontroller through UART and AT commands set.

The SPWF01S is an ideal solution to get a sensor nodes network securely connected to a cloud service provider, allowing remote access to the nodes.

Future Electronics Holds Supply Chain Innovation Conference

Montreal, Canada – December 8, 2015 – Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, held a “Supply Chain Innovation” conference on November 12th in Leipzig, Germany, with over 150 of their customers from across Europe in attendance.

Alberto Della Chiesa, VP of Supply Chain Solutions at STMictoelectronics speaks at Future Electronis's 'Supply Chain Innovation' Conference (1)

ALBERTO DELLA CHIESA, VP OF SUPPLY CHAIN SOLUTIONS AT ST MICROELECTRONICS.

One of the main speakers was Alberto Della Chiesa, Vice-President for Supply Chain Solutions at STMicroelectronics, who advised the audience that they need to re-think the way they manage their demand for electronics components in order to better handle the inherent risks of an increasingly complex supply chain.

Della Chiesa pointed out that many e-commerce retailers, such as Amazon, have made next-day delivery possible for almost any electronics device. This can contribute to extreme day-to-day swings in demand for specific parts. He added that at the same time, semiconductor manufacturers typically require between 8 and 12 weeks to produce a finished, packaged IC.

Alberto Della Chiesa, VP of Supply Chain Solutions at STMictoelectronics speaks at Future Electronis's 'Supply Chain Innovation' Conference (2)

ALBERTO DELLA CHIESA, VP OF SUPPLY CHAIN SOLUTIONS AT ST MICROELECTRONICS.

Della Chiesa explained that it is only by combining demand management, demand propagation and inventory management with an intensified focus on manufacturing excellence that the entire electronics supply chain can handle the increasing volatility in demand that it is facing – something that STMicroelectronics calls flexible networking.

Closing the conference, Tom Galligani, Global Vice-President of Supply Chain at Future Electronics, echoed the theme, saying, ‘Supply chain complexity is not a threat that we have to think about preparing for in the next few years; it’s affecting OEMs and CEMs right now.”

Galligani continued, “Electronics component distributors have a big part to play in helping OEMs and CEMs to manage the resulting volatility. Services such as Future Electronics’ Bonded Inventory Management (BIM) program will help, giving manufacturers a three-month buffer stock and providing extra time to respond to spikes or falls in demand for specific parts. This long-distance backward visibility into the supply chain helps to make up for OEMs’ dramatically reduced forward visibility of end-user demand.’

Conference attendees also learned valuable information from other participants, including DHL, Witron, BMK, Artemis Group, IBM, Peiker, ADR International and Bird & Bird, as well as an introduction by Ole Gerkensmeyer, Regional Sales Director (Central Europe) of Future Electronics.
