MultiTech Unites with Future Electronics, ARM and Aeris to Host the “IoT – Prototype to Production Workshop”

Mountain View, Calif. – May 20, 2015 Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. a leading global manufacturer of M2M and IoT devices, today announced its sponsorship of the “IoT-Prototype to Production Workshop,” on June 18, 2015 from 10am to 3pm PT at Hacker DoJo, a community of hackers and startups located in Mountain View, California. The workshop is co-sponsored with Future Electronics, ARM® and Aeris.

Programmers and tech professionals attending “IoT – Prototype to Production Workshop” will learn how to prototype, and develop an IoT project by incorporating the necessary hardware, transport/connectivity and chips. ARM experts will discuss the ARM mbed™ IoT Device Platform and explain how its community of 100,000+ developers are taking products to market with speed and efficiency. Delegates will learn about the platform’s ecosystem of interoperable development solutions, components and services, and learn how to crowd source libraries for sensors and peripherals using a cloud based IDE. They will also get advice on moving data from an edge sensor/processor to a cloud platform as a service using a cellular module.

A pre-lab webinar will be held one week prior to the event to go over the necessary prep work for all participants at the workshop, which will include three hands-on demonstrations:

  • SMS software: This lab will explore how to send an SMS from a flexible software platform to say, “Hello World.”
  • Sensor tech: This lab will explore the creation of something like an alcohol monitoring sensor, which can be used to sense your blood-alcohol percentage.
  • Moisture sensor: This lab will explore how to publish information to the platform as a service using, for example, moisture levels in soil.

“In the fast-evolving world of the Internet of Things, solutions need to be responsive, innovative and nimble. Participants will learn how to get their IoT commercial solutions up and running using provided hardware platforms and mbed.org to create new connected prototypes with the help of professionals from Future, ARM and Aeris, ” said Michael Finegan, Director of Business Development at MultiTech.

Programmers, product managers and engineers are encouraged to attend to learn how to build successful business practices and avoid critical pitfalls of IoT development. Attendees will receive a development kit and data plan for prototyping purposes.

Instructors include leading executives from MultiTech, Future, ARM and Aeris. Registration can be made at: www.tinyurl.com/q2nbbpc

MultiTech, Aeris and Future Electronics Launch the First Pre-Activated and Pre-Paid Communication Products

A New “All in One Bundle” Reinforces MultiTech’s Commitment to Ease of Use for Customers

Minneapolis, Minn. – February 17, 2015 – MultiTech, a leading global manufacturer of M2M/IoT devices with the shortest path to deploy wireless communications, today announced a joint partnership with Aeris and Future Electronics to make available pre-activated and pre-paid cellular communication devices.  Future Electronics, a leading distributor of M2M products, stocks a variety of MultiTech cellular modems, routers, and gateways in both CDMA and GSM technologies which include 10MB of cellular data available for use for 90 days on the Aeris Cellular network.

MultiTech, Aeris and Future Electronics are the first to provide an out-of-box, pre-activated solution for either CDMA or GSM products. Customers interested in GSM can use a pre-paid data SIM card in various MultiTech products. Companies using CDMA technology will only need to connect the device, apply power and begin passing data.  All the work has been done for customers, including pre-activating the device and pre-paying for the data.   This eliminates complexity and the need for customers to contact a cellular carrier to obtain a cellular data account for testing and evaluation.

“This “it-just-works” product portfolio reinforces MultiTech’s commitment toward making communications easy for our customers,” said Vice President of Sales, Duane Wald.  “These are great products for engineers, developers and creators who want to get started quickly on their development and evaluation.”

“Our customers want immediate cellular data access for their products and the ability to quickly and easily test and evaluate the manufacturers solutions beforehand,” said Kelly Murphy, Director of Marketing for Future Connectivity Solutions.  “They appreciate MultiTech, Aeris and Future working together to make it quick and easy to test, evaluate and get their products to market”

The products are available immediately at Future Electronics by searching “pre-activated” at www.FutureElectronics.com

Future Electronics to present wireless sensor network demonstration using MultiConnect Conduit IoT platform at Electronica 2014

Egham, UK – 23 October, 2014 – Future Electronics today invited prospective visitors to its stand A4.259 at Electronica (Munich, 11-14 November 2014) to view a demonstration of a wireless sensor network based on a comprehensive new communication platform for Internet of Things (IoT) systems.

The demonstration on the Future Electronics stand, A4-259, will feature the new MultiConnect® Conduit™ from MultiTech, available from Future Electronics in Q1 2015. The Conduit cellular gateway has the ability to manage thousands of end points, such as wireless mDot modules which feature Semtech’s LoRa™ long-range, low-power RF technology connected to sensor nodes. The mDots are able to transmit and receive data over a range up to 16km. Applications requiring deep in-building coverage can expect 3-6km coverage. The Conduit programmable gateway packages and aggregates the data over the cellular (mobile telephone) network to the user’s preferred data management platform.

On the Future Electronics stand, visitors will be able to view and handle four such mDot-enabled sensor nodes, which will measure temperature, pressure, ambient light and position. Each will be connected via a Conduit gateway to the internet. Real-time sensor measurements will be uploaded to a data management site hosted in the cloud.

This means, for instance, that visitors to the stand will be able to cover the ambient light sensor in their hand to reduce the detected light, hold the temperature sensor and see a rise in temperature, or to lift the pressure sensor up in the air, and see a reduction in air pressure captured in real time by the sensor live on an internet-enabled display.

Future Electronics’ Vice-President Engineering and Vertical Markets, Stephen Carr, said: ‘For makers of distributed sensor networks, the connectivity element of the design can often be the most challenging. That’s why Future Electronics is showing the MultiConnect Conduit to visitors to Electronica: it provides a ready-made, plug-and-play platform for moving data from remote sensors via wired or wireless connections to any supported data management platform in the cloud.’
