ON Semiconductor has expanded its high voltage IPM portfolio with the STK55xU3xxx-E family. With a power range of 10A to 50A in SIP and DIP packaging, the new IPMs integrate a complete 3-phase inverter including the gate drive circuit. The company’s newest IGBT and driver technologies are also incorporated in the new family of IPMs, minimizing switching losses of the module.

The modules are based on the proprietary Insulated Metal Substrate Technology (IMST) which exhibits many benefits over existing standard frame types including excellent thermal coupling and response, higher reliability, lower power losses, faster temperature monitoring and reduced switching surges. IMST enables assembly of discrete passive components (resistors, capacitors); discrete active components (diodes, transistors); and more complex devices (gate drivers, DSPs logic) into high integrated modules.

Features include a 3-phase power MOS/IGBT bridge, on-board gate drivers, IC low voltage flag, overcurrent flag, an on-board current sensor, and an on-board temperature sensor.

The ZXBM5210 reversible DC motor driver from Diodes Inc. is a highly integrated high performance single chip solution for reversible brushed direct current (DC) motors and actuators. The driver’s integrated high performance H-bridge output stage can deliver currents as high as 700mA continuous, 1.2A peak and has been designed to meet stringent low noise requirements by minimizing both audible switching noise and electromagnetic interference. For system flexibility the device has four modes of operation: forward, reverse, brake and stand-by modes. The operating mode and direction of rotation can be selected by the FWD and REV pins.

The ZXBM5210 Series supports single coil reversible DC motor applications, offers four modes of operations: forward, reverse, brake and stand-by, and has internal overcurrent protection as well as over-temperature protection. Additional features of the ZXBM5210 Series include 6kV ESD withstand capability; 3V to 18V operating voltage; 0.85mA/32µA normal/stand-by operation current; under-voltage lockout and over-voltage protection; -40ºC to +85ºC/105ºC operating temperature; and standard SO-8 and thermally enhanced SO-8EP.

Future Electronics Offers Fairchild Semiconductor’s Automotive 3-Phase Variable Speed Inverter

Montreal, Canada – January 14, 2014Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, has announced immediate availability Automotive 3-Phase Variable Speed Inverter Power Modules from Fairchild Semiconductor.

This automotive 3-phase variable speed inverter power module enables higher torque systems, saves fuel, and lowers CO2 emissions, while also shortening development time, increasing reliability, and simplifying high power motor drive stage assembly.

This device, intended for 3-phase motor control applications under 2kW, allows designers to reduce the overall system cost of higher power applications. This includes electric power steering (column-mount and rack-mount), electro-hydraulic power steering, electric water pumps, electric oil pumps and engine cooling fans. The FTCO3V455A1 allows these applications to deliver higher torque outputs. Additionally, power modules are more cost-effective than traditional solutions when all aspects of the power stage design (interconnections, mechanical, electrical and thermal) are considered.

The FTCO3V455A1 automotive power module, through increased electronics integration, uses fewer components than discrete solutions and provides a compact system design that delivers better EMI performance. The integrated DC Bus high accuracy current sense resistor enables full control of the electric motor, while the NTC thermistor provides thermal protection.

The module enables an extremely low electrical resistance path between the battery and motor, in addition to a complete separation of the control board from the high power stage. This provides high current handling capability at a reduced system cost. The module, measuring 44.00 x 29.00 x 5.00 mm, offers designers better EMC, >1.5KV in electrical isolation and lower motor ripple. Additionally, the module provides better system reliability and easier installation.
