Future Electronics Launches New Video Featuring the MIC28304 Series from Micrel

Montreal, Canada – September 2, 2014 – Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, has launched a new video featuring the MIC28304 Series from Micrel.

The new video showcases Micrel’s MIC28304 micro power module, a highly reliable DC/DC turnkey solution in a very small 12mm x 12mm QFN package, which allows designers to put the desired supply rail where it is required and protect electronic devices from unwanted high voltage transients. It also features a unique adaptive ON-time control architecture. It is the first micro power module that can tolerate surges up to 70 Volts and up to 3 Amps while handling a large difference between input and output voltages, which makes it ideal for applications that are noise sensitive and subject to large voltage transients. It also offers best in class low radiated emissions.

The MIC28304 is a synchronous step-down regulator module, which incorporates a DC-to-DC controller, power MOSFETs, bootstrap capacitor, input capacitor bootstrap diode and an inductor in one compact package. The input supply can range from 4.5V to 70V, and the output voltage is adjustable down to 0.8V. The module operates with programmable switching frequency from 200kHz to 600kHz.

The MIC28304 is usually followed by a load switch to power 3.3 Volt or 5 Volt circuitry and multi buck stage in order to power the microcontrollers to ensure proper power sequencing.

The MIC28304 eliminates the need to design, evaluate, test or procure discrete components. It is easy to lay out and place near active components, therefore minimizing the need to route long supply traces. The module also offers better EMI performance than discrete solutions because of the very close proximity of its internal components. Other benefits include vibration and humidity resistance because all the components of the MIC28304 are condensed inside the package. It also has reliability and simple design while at the same time offering great power efficiency. All of these benefits lead to a shorter time to market than other solutions, and the space savings are about 60% of the board area when compared with a discrete solution.

The MIC28304 is offered in HyperLight Load Control and Hyper Speed Control options in order to address applications with several load power sequencing conditions, with superior efficiency and ultra-fast transient response time under medium to heavy loads. HyperLight Load Control ensures high efficiency under light load conditions, which is normally used in systems that have standby condition. As applications are available with a variety of load conditions, Hyper Speed Control ensures quick response time to output load transients.

The MIC28304 ensures IC protection during fault conditions by having several safety features that are important for system reliability including undervoltage lockout, internal soft-start to reduce inrush current, foldback current limit, thermal shutdown and hiccup mode short-circuit protection.

The MIC28304 can be used in several industrial applications to support supply voltages that are required by low voltage active circuitry as well as mixed signal devices like analog to digital converters, microprocessors, switches and sensors. Other applications include distributed power systems and medical, telecom and automotive sectors.

The MAQ3203 is a hysteretic, step down, constant-current, High-Brightness LED (HB LED) driver. It provides an ideal solution for interior/exterior lighting, architectural and ambient lighting, LED bulbs, and other general illumination applications.

The MAQ3203 is well suited for lighting applications requiring a wide-input voltage range. The hysteretic control gives good supply rejection and fast response during load transients and PWM dimming. The high-side current sensing and on-chip current-sense amplifier delivers LED current with ±5% accuracy. An external high-side current sense resistor is used to set the output current.

The MAQ3203 offers a dedicated PWM input (DIM) which enables a wide range of pulsed dimming. A high-frequency switching operation up to 1.5MHz allows the use of smaller external components, thus minimizing space and cost. The MAQ3203 offers frequency dither feature for EMI control.

The MAQ3203 operates over a junction temperature from -40ºC to +125º and is available in an 8-pin SOIC package. The MAQ3203 is AEC-Q100 qualified for automotive applications.

The MIC2790/1/3 is a high accuracy supervisor circuit with an ultra fast response, a manual reset input pin, and a capacitor-programmable reset delay. The device monitors a wide sense input voltage range from 0.4V to 5.5V with an ultra high accuracy of 0.5% at room temperature. The output is asserted when the sense signal is below the comparator threshold. The MIC279X provides two outputs with inverting logic and multiple choice of drivers, open-drain and push-pull options.

The device also includes an enable signal in addition to manual reset and external programmable capacitive timeout delay between 1ms-10s. The input voltage range of 1.5V to 5.5V makes this part ideal for a wide variety of applications.

Features include a 1μs ultra fast propagation delay, a ±0.5% reset threshold at +25°C, a ±1.0% reset threshold from -40°C to +125°C, a capacitor-programmable timeout delay and user adjustable input voltage thresholds with open-drain active low, push-pull active low, and push-pull active high options, integrated manual reset and enable functions, and a reference voltage of 0.4V.
