MEAN WELL recently introduced the IRM-03/05/10/15/20/30/45/60 series ranging from 3W to 60W for the miniature on board type encapsulated AC/DC power supply family. In order to further fulfill the applications requiring lower output wattages, MEAN WELL has unveiled the IRM-01(1W)/02(2W) series.

These series follow the design of IRM-03 series, characterizing the miniature dimension and the ultra low no load power consumption (<0.075W), helping system designers resolve issues of insufficient PCB layout space for the terminal equipment, and also complying with the global regulations requiring low power consumption for electronic devices. Per application requirements, these series are planed with the PIN style type (IRM-01/02) and the SMD style type (IRM-01S/02S) that they are ready for hand welding or SMT onto PCB mother boards of various electric apparatuses or industrial electromechanical facilities.

Future Electronics to present wireless sensor network demonstration using MultiConnect Conduit IoT platform at Electronica 2014

Egham, UK – 23 October, 2014 – Future Electronics today invited prospective visitors to its stand A4.259 at Electronica (Munich, 11-14 November 2014) to view a demonstration of a wireless sensor network based on a comprehensive new communication platform for Internet of Things (IoT) systems.

The demonstration on the Future Electronics stand, A4-259, will feature the new MultiConnect® Conduit™ from MultiTech, available from Future Electronics in Q1 2015. The Conduit cellular gateway has the ability to manage thousands of end points, such as wireless mDot modules which feature Semtech’s LoRa™ long-range, low-power RF technology connected to sensor nodes. The mDots are able to transmit and receive data over a range up to 16km. Applications requiring deep in-building coverage can expect 3-6km coverage. The Conduit programmable gateway packages and aggregates the data over the cellular (mobile telephone) network to the user’s preferred data management platform.

On the Future Electronics stand, visitors will be able to view and handle four such mDot-enabled sensor nodes, which will measure temperature, pressure, ambient light and position. Each will be connected via a Conduit gateway to the internet. Real-time sensor measurements will be uploaded to a data management site hosted in the cloud.

This means, for instance, that visitors to the stand will be able to cover the ambient light sensor in their hand to reduce the detected light, hold the temperature sensor and see a rise in temperature, or to lift the pressure sensor up in the air, and see a reduction in air pressure captured in real time by the sensor live on an internet-enabled display.

Future Electronics takes IoT beyond the exhibition halls as low-power wide-area wireless network demonstration stars at Electronica

Egham, UK – 24 September, 2014 – Future Electronics gave prospective visitors to its stand A4.259 at Electronica (Munich, 11-14 November) a taste of the Internet of Things demonstration it will be making at the show.

In a joint project with Semtech and Microchip Technology, Future Electronics is to deploy an ISM-band IoT network using LoRa™ technology, providing wireless connectivity across most of the Munich area with only a few gateways (base stations) while Electronica is taking place.

Up to 1,000 free and fully functional wireless sensor nodes are available to qualified engineers visiting the Future Electronics stand at Electronica, each with its own unique identification code. These demonstration boards, which provide standard interfaces to allow designers to integrate them with a sensor circuit, act as RF-enabled nodes, and connect automatically to the nearest available gateway in the temporary network.

Any engineer with a sensor node will be able to monitor in real time the communication link between their node and the network gateways by logging on to the network’s website via their computer, tablet or smartphone.

This live network will provide a practical demonstration of an innovative RF infrastructure to support the cloud-based monitoring of sensors, actuators and other types of IoT device. It will show that wide-area coverage can be achieved with low-power devices that can easily achieve multi-year battery lifetime with a common, off-the-shelf battery. In addition, the use of ISM-band licence-free spectrum frees IoT systems from the need to connect over wide areas via expensive mobile telephone networks.

The demonstration IoT Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) is backed by a series of displays on the Future Electronics stand on the theme of the Internet of Things, including a series of videos, product displays and tutorials showing how IoT systems can be built with components implementing the three stages of Collect, Control and Communicate.

Visitors will also be able to take part in the ‘Collect, Control, Communicate’ challenge, with prizes awarded to any visitor who can solve a specially modified Rubik’s Cube.
