Future Electronics Announces Launch of Microsemi’s Lowest Power and Cost-Optimized PolarFire FPGAs

Montreal, Canada – February 15, 2017 – Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, has announced the launch of Microsemi’s new mid-range PolarFire field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).

The new PolarFire FPGAs from Microsemi offer the industry’s lowest power at mid-range densities and provide a cost-optimized FPGA product family targeted for access networks, wireless infrastructure, defense, commercial aviation and industry 4.0 markets.

Offering up to 50 percent lower power than competing mid-range FPGAs,  Microsemi’s PolarFire FPGAs deliver 500K logic elements (LEs) and 12.7 Gbps Serializer/Deserializer (SerDes) transceivers with class-leading small form factors and high security.

Microsemi has been delivering programmable logic for over 28 years.
With the introduction of PolarFire FPGAs, Microsemi is now a broad line FPGA supplier with the ablity to support devices from 1K to 500K LEs.  Its IGLOO™, ProAsic3, IGLOO2, SmartFusion™2 and PolarFire FPGAs deliver industry-leading power efficiency, security and reliability, all with instant-on and non-volatile technologies.

“Future Electronics’ engineering customers are continually finding great success utilizing our IGLOO2 and SmartFusion2-based Creative Board for Microsemi’s FPGAs. The new PolarFire family’s unbelievably low power consumption — even with the transceiver operating at 12.7 Gpbs data rates — and powerful Libero SoC PolarFire design tool represent a massively disruptive technology in the mid-range density FPGA market.  PolarFire FPGAs open the door for engineers to utilize Microsemi’s highly differentiated FPGA technology in more applications than ever before,” explained Todd Baker, Corporate VP of Engineering for Future Electronics.

Baker continued, “Future Electronics is proud to collaborate with Microsemi in bringing the PolarFire FPGA launch to our broad customer base and I have no doubt that design engineers are going to find tremendous value in this cost-optimized, low power, mid-range density FPGA family.”
