Its high power density and thermal performance allow the ISL8203M to operate at full load over a wide temperature range.

Future Electronics Launches New Video Demonstrating Intersil’s ISL8203M Series

Montreal, Canada – April 28, 2015 – Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, recently launched a new video discussing the ISL8203M Series from Intersil.

The video discusses some of the main reasons for using power modules, includes an introduction of ISL8203M power module, and presents Intersil’s product portfolio of power module solutions, while demonstrating the benefits of the products.

Using only nine external components, Intersil’s ISL8203M power module solution saves hundreds of man-hours in design, procurement, PCB board layout, and manufacturing. It requires few external components, and has a small package size allowing for high density power design. The patented packaging allows for high load currents without heat sinks or fans. Additional advantages of the ISL8203M include pick and place manufacturability, the ability to parallel devices in a small PCB board area, and high efficiency to minimize heat.

The ISL8203M is a complete DC to DC step down power supply solution encapsulated in a single package. Operating from the industry standard 5V or 3.3V power rails, it is capable of providing up to 6A of continuous output current as a single channel point of load, or up to 3A per channel as a dual channel point of load making it a very versatile solution. The ISL8203M supports output voltages as low as 0.8V and offers up to 95% efficiency on several conversion ratios. Furthermore, a fast 1.1MHz control loop architecture allows a fast transient response to any output current load step. Finally, the thermally enhanced QFN is only 9mm x 6.5mm x 1.83mm.

The ISL8203MEVAL2Z evaluation board is designed to demonstrate the performance of the ISL8203M. The board is by default set up to demonstrate two 3A outputs independently, and can also be easily set up for current sharing 6A by changing placeholder resistors.

Intersil’s ISL8203M power module reduces complexity and eliminates the need for specialized power design knowledge, thus reducing time to market.

Future Electronics Promotes VCNL4040 Series of Proximity and Ambient Light Sensors from Vishay

Montreal, Canada – April 15, 2015 – Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, promotes Vishay’s VCNL4040 Series of proximity and ambient light sensors.

The VCNL4040 Series integrates a proximity sensor (PS), ambient light sensor (ALS), and a high power IRED into one small package. It incorporates photodiodes, amplifiers, and analog to digital converting circuits into a single chip by CMOS process. The 16-bit high resolution ALS offers excellent sensing capabilities with sufficient selections to fulfill most applications, whether dark or high transparency lens design. High and low interrupt thresholds can be programmed for both ALS and PS, allowing the component to use a minimal amount of the microcontrollers’ resources.

The proximity sensor features an intelligent cancellation scheme, so that cross talk phenomenon is eliminated effectively. To accelerate the PS response time, smart persistence prevents the misjudgment of proximity sensing while also keeping a fast response time. In active force mode, a single measurement can be requested, allowing another good approach for more design flexibility to fulfill different kinds of applications with more power savings.

The patented Filtron™ technology achieves ambient light spectral sensitivity closest to real human eye response and offers the best background light cancellation capability (including sunlight) without utilizing the microcontrollers’ resources. The VCNL4040 Series provides an excellent temperature compensation capability for keeping output stable under various temperature configurations. ALS and PS functions are easily set via the simple command format of I2C (SMBus compatible) interface protocol.

With operating voltage ranges from 2.5 V to 3.6 V, the VCNL4040 Series is offered in a lead-free 8-pin molding package, providing the best market-proven reliability quality.
