The IOH lets you choose from multiple serial communication protocols to add or change future platforms, without a new MCU. In building automation, for example, the entry level version of a design for building access could use a keypad as the user interface, while a later, more advanced version of the design could use the IOH to add a codec that supports voice  communications.

The software-driven IOH block is easy to use and adapts to your application’s changing needs. The block is supported by ready-to-use libraries that make quick work of adding interfaces, windowed comparators and DMA functions.

The LPC11E37H and LPC11U37H are low power MCUs with a 50MHz ARM Cortex-M0 core, 128kB of Flash, 10kB of SRAM, and 4kB of EEPROM with EEPROM ROM drivers. The LPC11U37H is the same as the LPC11E37H, but adds a full speed USB device controller with integrated PHY and USB ROM drivers.

For faster development, both devices are available with libraries for popular toolchains, including Keil MDK, IAR EWARM, and the NXP LPCXpresso IDE v6, a cross platform C/C++ development suite that supports all of NXP’s LPC microcontrollers. Future Electronics Promotes the AH1902 and AH1903 Series of Micropower Hall Switches from Diodes, Raising Detection Circuit Performance

Montreal, Canada – March 25, 2014 – Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, promotes the AH1902 and AH1903 series of micropower Hall switches from Diodes, raising detection circuit performance.

Diodes has extended its family of Hall effect switches with the introduction of a pair of high sensitivity, micropower devices. Bringing greater design flexibility and savings in both power and space, the AH1902 and AH1903 help raise the performance bar of a wide range of contact-less switch applications in consumer, domestic, office and industrial products.

The AH1902 is an omnipolar device, detecting both north and south pole magnets. In default mode, the programmable AH1903 operates as a unipolar device, detecting a south pole at the part marked package surface. The device also offers an omnipolar mode, enabling it to meet the needs of multiple applications and to be changed ‘on the fly’ in the event of a field direction issue. The AH1903 function is changed via a simple select pin, driven by an external logic source or microcontroller.

The high sensitivity of both switches means weaker magnets can be employed or detection distances extended; the switches’ typical operating threshold switch point being ±35G.

Designed to be used with a low voltage supply, these latest Hall switches from Diodes will operate over the range 1.6V to 3.6V. This factor, coupled with an integral sleep function and a typical current consumption figure of 4.3µA, make them good performers in battery-powered applications.

To aid product miniaturization, the switches are provided in a choice of space saving low profile surface mount packages. The omnipolar AH1902 comes in the DFN1216-4, ultra thin DFN2015-6 and SOT553 packages. And in the 1.2 x 1.6 x 0.5mm DFN1216-4 package, the AH1903 is the industry’s smallest omnipolar/unipolar programmable Hall switch.

To accommodate a wide range of handheld applications, these high reliability switches have an 8kV electrostatic discharge withstand capability and offer good immunity to RF noise and other circuit stresses. Operating and release points are also highly stable over the temperature range -40ºC to +85ºC, and with a very low temperature coefficient, the switches are immune to early or late switching.

Future Electronics Offers the VCNL4020X01 Proximity and Ambient Light Sensor from Vishay

The VCNL4020X01 is a robust, AEC-Q101-qualified proximity and ambient light sensor from Vishay, capable of handling operating  temperatures from -40˚C to +105˚C, for a variety of applications.

The VCNL4020X01 simplifies designs by combining an IR emitter, a photo-pin-diode for proximity, an ambient light detector, a signal processing IC, and a 16-bit ADC in one small 4.9 x 2.4 x 0.8mm rectangular leadless (LLP) package.

The 3-in-1 sensor features an interrupt function, supports I2C bus communication interface, and greatly simplifies window and sensor placement in a wide variety of automotive, consumer, medical and industrial applications.

While other products only achieve object detection up to 100mm, the VCNL4020X01 provides a programmable LED drive current from 10mA to 200mA in 10mA steps, allowing distances up to 200mm for touch and proximity applications. Future Electronics Helps Customers Select the Right TVS Diodes from Vishay

TVS diodes are avalanche breakdown diodes made of silicon. The avalanche breakdown voltage is depending on the design of the diode (doping profile) and the temperature of the p/n-junction. But it is independent from the size of the diode. Any current passing the diode causes thermal power which heats the diode up. The avalanche breakdown voltage rises with a temperature coefficient of round about ~ 0.1 %/K. This is the major reason for the increasing clamping voltage during a surge pulse. At higher currents the low series resistance causes an additional voltage drop and contribution to the so-called “clamping voltage” of the diode.

A simple diode consists of a “p-doped” and a “n-doped” silicon layer. The junction between both is call “p/n junction”. Such a diode passes a “forward current” from the p-layer, called “anode”, to the n-layer called “cathode” with just a low “forward voltage” drop. In the opposite direction, the “reverse direction”, the p/n-junction is blocked, so that just a very low “leakage current” can flow from the cathode to the anode. In the moment when the applied “reverse voltage” generates a critical electric field in the p/n-junction an “avalanche breakdown” starts. Diodes with just one p/n-junction are “uni-directional avalanche breakdown diodes” called “uni-directional diodes.”

Diodes with three layers, such as p/n/p or n/p/n, have two p/n-junctions so that an avalanche breakdown can occur in both directions. Such diodes are “bi-directional avalanche breakdown diodes” called “bi-directional diodes.”

PAR® stands for Passivated Anisotropic Rectifier technology. Diodes made with this technology offer high-reliability with maximum junction temperature (Tj) up to 185 °C, and are the first choice for automotive applications.

During operation, when a high current passes the p/n-junction, the diode gets hot. Once the diode gets too hot the silicon in the p/n-junction can melt (electrical overstress (EOS)) and the resistivity drops down. The diode gets usually “shorted.” But if the energy is just high enough the diode can also be cracked or exploded. This can cause an “open.”

Future Electronics Announces Availability of the XR3070 – the Industry’s Lowest Power, Fault Tolerant Transceiver from Exar

The XR307x family of high performance RS-485/422 devices are designed for improved performance in noisy industrial environments and increased tolerance to system faults. The analog bus pins can withstand direct shorts up to ±18V, and are protected against ESD events up to ±15kV. The differential high output driver delivers 10% higher SNR than standard RS-485/422 devices, affording additional noise margin or extended cable lengths. The receivers include full fail-safe circuitry, guaranteeing a logic-high receiver output when the receiver inputs are open, shorted, or undriven. The receiver input impedance is at minimum 96kΩ (1/8 unit load), allowing up to 256 devices on the bus while preserving the full signal margin.
