Available in 1 W, 3 W, and 5 W families, the modules measure as small as 1.38 x 0.43 x 0.94 in. (35 x 11 x 24 mm), occupying less pcb real estate than other conventional AC-DC power supplies, thus allowing designers to fully maximize space where on-board AC-DCc power conversion is required.

The high density PBK series is offered in single output voltages of 3.3, 5, 9, 12, 15, and 24 Vdc and can operate at ac input voltages between 85~264 Vac.  For high voltage dc-dc applications, the modules also provide a dc input range spanning 100~400 Vdc. All models are designed for 3,000 Vac/1 Min input to output isolation, have over current and continuous short circuit protection, and can function at a wide operating range from -40 to +85°C (1W and 3W) and -25 to +85°C (5W) for use in challenging environments.

The SIP packaged PBK series meets internationally recognized UL 60950-1/EN 60950-1 standards and complies with EN55022 Class B limits for conducted and radiated EMC with few additional external components.  They are ideally suited for a range of applications including automation systems, industrial systems, and telecommunication equipment.

Future Electronics Announces First Embedded Firmware Development Framework from Microchip

MPLAB® Harmony integrates expanding set of middleware, drivers, libraries and RTOSs, simplifies 32-bit MCU code development, reduces integration bugs and speeds designs. Microchip’s new MPLAB Harmony framework reduces development time and costs by providing a single integrated, abstracted and flexible source for Microchip-tested, debugged and interoperable code.  In addition, Harmony provides a modular architecture that enables the efficient integration of multiple drivers, middleware and libraries, while offering an RTOS-independent environment that makes it easy to switch RTOSs.  Not only does this pre-verification and integration speed development, it also increases reuse.  On the hardware side, the Harmony framework makes it even easier to port code and migrate among all of Microchip’s 32-bit PIC32 microcontrollers.  Also, by using this single source for in-house and third-party code (both free and premium) that is supported by Microchip, designers can greatly increase their reaction times to their ever-changing end-market requirements.

Future Electronics Offers Availability of Fairchild Semiconductor’s New Motion SPM 5 Series

Montreal, Canada – January 16, 2014Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, has offers availability of the new Motion SPM 5 Series from Fairchild Semiconductor.

Designers of motor control systems need solutions that optimize efficiency and ensure maximum reliability under harsh application conditions. To meet this challenge, Fairchild Semiconductor developed the SPM® 5 smart power module series 3-phase MOSFET inverter solution, providing designers an AC induction motor (ACIM) and Brushless DC (BLDC) motor inverter solution for motors up to 200W including fan motors, dishwasher pumps, and various small industrial motors.

The new SPM 5 series is composed of six fast-recovery MOSFETs, and three half-bridge HVICs for gate driving. The devices provide low electromagnetic interference (EMI) characteristics with optimized switching speed.

Precision driving of the low RDS(ON) MOSFETs minimizes EMI and maximizes switching efficiency. The integrated under-voltage lockout and thermal sensing unit provide local protection to the SPM device while allowing the attached controller IC to monitor the module’s thermal performance in real time.

Part of the Motion SPM 5 SuperFET® series, the FSB50x60SF(S) devices are based on 600V Super Junction MOSFET technology, while the FSB50xxxA(x) are based on 250V/500V FRFET® technology. The SPM 5 SuperFET series is the industry’s first 600V super junction MOSFET module solution for small home appliances and small industrial drives. Both technologies provide better ruggedness and larger safe operation area (SOA) than that of an IGBT-based power module or one-chip solution.

This new SPM series features three bootstrap diodes in a tiny 29mm x 12mm package rated for 250V, 500V and 600V operation. The compact design and simple electrical interface make it ideal for applications requiring a small footprint, rapid time-to-market and design scalability, such as built-in motor applications, and any other application where the assembly space is limited. Devices in the series provide designers the energy efficiency, compactness, and low EMI today’s applications require.
